Flash February 2026

Jorge Mendes de Oliveira from SAI Brazil presented the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and its application in audit practice.

The Multidimensional Poverty Index provides a broader perspective on poverty by going beyond income-based measures and capturing deprivations across multiple dimensions such as education, health and living standards. During this Flash session, participants gained insights into how the MPI can be used as an analytical tool in audit work, particularly in assessing the design, targeting and relevance of public policies aimed at reducing poverty and social inequalities.

The presentation illustrated practical experiences from Brazil and explored how multidimensional indicators can strengthen evidence-based auditing and contribute to more comprehensive evaluations of public interventions.
