New Year’s wishes from the WGEPPP Presidency

Dear all,

I actually have a favourite reading that comes from the INTOSAI Framework: The Principle 12 on «The Value and Benefits of Supreme Audit Institutions – making a difference to the lives of citizens». It summarizes succinctly what our work should be about: Strengthening the accountability, transparency and integrity of government and public sector entities; demonstrating ongoing relevance to citizens, parliament and other stakeholders, and being a model organization through leading by example.

Evaluations are a key instrument, especially when it comes to providing transparency and demonstrating our value contribution for the benefit of the population. It takes a lot to be able to deliver value-adding evaluations: asking the right questions, choosing and applying the right methods and, integrating correctly the stakeholders, and ensuring a good project management, but it requires one thing above all: courage. Courage to tackle critical issues, to dare to draw clear conclusions and to face uncomfortable discussions about the results.

We at WGEPPP will do our utmost to exchange ideas, network, contribute to mutual development and also encourage ourselves – for the important role we have to fulfil as SAI.
